buzz :Boho Bar is the latest installment from Darkhorse Developments, the team behind the űber successful and stylish Perth bars, The Suite and The Cabin. Intimate without being claustrophobic, the moody interior draws inspiration from art deco, modern industrial and bohemian chic, with a whole lot of luxe. There are eight different styles of seating, a stuffed bird of paradise in the rafters, and the dramatic contrast of black and white with canary yellow accents. A shocking yellow ante room adjoining the toilets snaps you out of the composed bar and onto the business at hand.
The space is dominated by a white pressed tin bulkhead and banquette seating, warmly lit with bare incandescent bulbs. A black tiled bar stretches the length of the room, and from this "dark side" is served a selection of the region's premium wines, beers and cocktails in quality Krosno glassware. The menu is upper end brasserie prices and not the place for a vegan feast. We only had coffee, which was robust and smooth. The small bar license means you can order drinks without food, thus saving your dollars and focus for the signature cocktails. With names like Louis Kiss, The Bohemian and The Crooner, there is one to match every persona.
Still in its youth, it remains to see how the Boho Bar will stack up against its big brothers Must and Winos down the hill. The regular live music, extended happy hours and set meal specials are enticing the locals out of winter hibernation, and with the promise of a glowing fire and Margaret River shiraz, I can sense Boho has staked its claim on the sophisticated end of the down south social scene.
